Pilgrimage to Turkey and Greece

Walk in the Footsteps of St. Paul

Catholic Pilgrimage to Turkey and Greece

A pilgrimage to Turkey and Greece is more than just a religious tour or vacation. It is following Paul's missionary journeys and other early missionary evangelists as they spread the faith throughout the region. Stand atop Mars Hill where Paul preached to the Athenians, see the remains of the prison where he and Silas were kept, and venerate the cave where St. John received the words of Revelation from our Lord. Journey through this historic and holy region where the stories and miracles of the Acts of the Apostles and New Testament epistles truly come to life.

Canakkale

This port city is the gateway to Gallipoli, the famous site of the World War I battle, as well as the remains of legendary Troy, the city made famous in Homer’s poems. From here you can also visit Troas where St. Paul had a vision in which he was called to Macedonia.
The Dardanelles

The Dardanelles

This strait forms part of the continental boundary between Europe and Asia and, together with the Bosphorus, is half of the Turkish Straits. The Dardanelles is one of the most crowded waterways and serves as an important connector between inland Eurasia and the Mediterranean countries.
Ephesus

Ephesus

Ephesus was an ancient Greek city, and later a major Roman city, on the coast of Ionia. Paul spent two years in Ephesus, and it was to this community that he wrote his Letter to the Ephesians. Ephesus now holds the ruins of the Temple of Artemis, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World, the great theater where Paul addressed the crowds, the Church of the Virgin Mary, the House of Mary, and the Tomb of St. Luke.

GREECE PILGRIMAGE SITES

Often called the “cradle of Western civilization,” Greece has played an important role in the history of the world and the Catholic faith. Journey through the lands once traversed by St. Paul himself and see where the first European, Lydia, was baptized. Imagine the crowds at the synagogue of Corinth listening to the words of St. Paul and marvel at the architectural wonders of the monasteries of Meteora.
Athens

Athens

One of the oldest named cities in the world, Athens beckons with many millennia of fascinating history and ancient architecture. View the Parthenon on top of the Acropolis, the 10th-century Church of the Holy Apostles, and Mars Hill, where St. Paul preached to the Athenians as recorded in the book of Acts. Now the capital of modern Greece, this metropolitan city buzzes with Ancient, Classical, Byzantine, Ottoman, and Christian elements.
Corinth

Corinth

West of Athens, the modern city of Corinth lies on the gulf of the same name. To the ancient Corinthians, St. Paul wrote two letters, including perhaps his most famous treatise on love. Visit the remains of the synagogue where Paul preached and imagine sitting in the presence of this great Apostle as he taught about Jesus.
Delphi

Delphi

Delphi was the home to the ancient source of wisdom known as the Oracle of Delphi. It now holds a treasure of archaeological sites including a temple honoring Apollo from the 4th century BC as well as the remains of a sanctuary of Athena Pronaia and an ancient stadium and theater.
