Marian Shrines Pilgrimage Lincoln, NE ·  February 2028

Santarém | Fatima & Valinhos | Braga | Santiago de Compostela | Oviedo | Garabandal | Lourdes | Zaragoza

This 13-day pilgrimage follows the Mother of God across Portugal, Spain and France, beginning at the Eucharistic Miracle of Santarém and culminating in Zaragoza at the Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar, where tradition holds she came to strengthen St. James in his preaching of the Gospel. Pilgrims kneel before the Bleeding Host, join the candlelight rosary at the Chapel of Apparitions in Fatima, venerate the relics of St. James beneath the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, reflect on the call to conversion and penance at the Pines of Garabandal, and drink from the spring at the Grotto of Massabielle in Lourdes. Led by Mary from shrine to shrine, pilgrims gather seeds of grace rather than souvenirs—and return home by a different way, carrying her call to prayer and penance into ordinary life.

Day 2 · February 15
Arrive Lisbon / Santarem / Fatima

Upon arrival in Lisbon, we will be met by our tour manager who will remain with us for the duration of our pilgrimage. Journey north to the Church of the Holy Miracle in Santarem to see one of the greatest Eucharistic Miracles, “The Bleeding Host.” In the 13th century, a woman stole the Host to take to a fortune-teller, but as she was taking it out of church the Host began to bleed profusely. Afraid, she put it in a trunk at her home only to be awakened in the middle of the night to a bright light coming from the trunk. She took the Host back to the priest, who put it in a wax pyx. Another miracle happened the next morning when they found that the wax had turned into its own crystal pyx, where it can be venerated to this day. After time for prayer here, continue to Fatima, our home for the next three nights. (D) Overnight Fatima

Day 3 · February 16
Fatima

A full day is ours in Fatima, where in 1917 three young shepherd children were graced with apparitions of the Virgin Mary. The message of Fatima has inspired generations of Catholics to pray the rosary daily for peace and reparation. Visit the Chapel of Apparitions before praying at the graves of Sts. Francisco and Jacinta, and Venerable Lucia. Explore the tiny village where the three children lived and continue to Valinhos where Our Lady appeared to the children after they were unjustly imprisoned. It is here that she encouraged them and told them they must still come every 13th of the month to see her. This evening, we participate in a beautiful Stations of the Cross along the Via Sacra or the candlelight rosary procession in the heart of the shrine. (B, D, Mass) Overnight Fatima

"Knowing that Richard and the other staff were praying for us back here in the States gave me a sense of safety and comfort. Although I had not direct contact with the US staff after Richard saw us off at the airport, I still felt the care given."

Anticipated Weather · February

Fatima / Central Portugal 40–58°F Mild & Showery · February Cool, changeable days with sun breaking between Atlantic showers, and evenings chilly enough to feel during the candlelight rosary. A warm coat and a candle in hand make a fitting start for pilgrims who came to pray, not to sightsee.
Santiago / Garabandal 32–54°F Cold & Rainy · February Expect frequent rain in Galicia and cold mountain air in Garabandal, where frost and the occasional dusting of snow are possible. The wet stones and steep village lanes ask something of the body, as every true pilgrim road does.
Lourdes / Pyrenees 34–52°F Cool & Overcast · February Gray foothill skies and cold, damp evenings around the Grotto, with the snow-capped Pyrenees close by. The off-season quiet leaves room to linger at the spring and carry home seeds of grace instead of souvenirs.

Pack warm layers, a waterproof jacket, and a compact umbrella; February brings steady rain to Galicia, near-freezing nights in the mountains, and a cold, dry wind in Zaragoza. Bring waterproof shoes with good grip for wet cobblestones and the uneven path to the Pines at Garabandal. Modest attire is required at all sacred sites (shoulders and knees covered).

What Pilgrims Are Saying

Presiding at the Eucharist in the Loyola house where Ignatius recuperated from his wounds and began his conversion and transformation. Each of the shrines we visited had something special for each of us - certainly true for myself.

My favorite moment was seeing the wheelchairs and gurneys wheeled into the Lady of Lourdes sanctuary.

Tekton took care of all details. They chose excellent hotels, well positioned to our interest points. They required very little from us once we gave them our personal information. I appreciated Richard being at the airport to help us get approved for take off. I think Tekton did a great job.
