Pilgrimage Itinerary

Day 1 | August 3 | Depart U.S.A.

Our pilgrimage begins today as we depart on our overnight flight to Lisbon. Meals and drinks served aloft.

Day 2 | August 4 | Arrive Lisbon / Santarem / Fatima

Upon arrival in Lisbon, we will be met by our tour manager who will remain with us for the duration of our pilgrimage. Journey north to the Church of the Holy Miracle in Santarem to see one of the greatest Eucharistic Miracles, “The Bleeding Host.” In the 13th century, a woman stole the host to take to a fortune-teller, but as she was taking it out of church the host began to bleed profusely. Afraid, she put it in a trunk at her home only to be awakened in the middle of the night to a bright light coming from the trunk. Taking the host back to the priest, he put it in a wax pyx. Another miracle happened the next morning when they found that the wax had turned into its own crystal pyx, where it can be venerated to this day. After time for prayer here, continue to Fatima, our home for the next two nights. (D) Overnight Fatima

Day 3 | August 5 | Fatima

A full day is ours in Fatima, where in 1917 three young shepherd children were graced with apparitions of the Virgin Mary. The message of Fatima has inspired generations of Catholics to pray the rosary daily for peace and reparation. Visit the Chapel of Apparitions before praying at the graves of Sts. Francisco and Jacinta, and Servant of God Lucia. Explore the tiny village where the three children lived and continue to Valinhos where Our Lady appeared to the children after they were unjustly imprisoned. It is here she encouraged them and told them they must still come every 13th of the month to see her. In the afternoon, pray the beautiful Stations of the Cross along the Via Sacre. This evening, we participate in the candlelight rosary procession in the heart of the shrine. (B, D) Mass – Overnight Fatima

Day 4 | August 6 | Fatima / Salamanca

Depart Fatima this morning and drive to the charming riverfront city of Coimbra, Spain where we stop at the Convent of Santa Clara La Nova where Sister Lucia lived until her death in 2005. We continue across the border and through the Spanish countryside to Salamanca, home of some of Spain’s most ornate architecture made from golden sandstone, and home to the third oldest university in Europe. Christopher Columbus brought his maps here for discussion. Walk through the bustling Plaza Mayor with its sweeping arches and enjoy a taste of Spanish culture before praying in the Cathedrals Vieja (Old) and Nueva (New). The cathedrals have numerous chapels inside, an elaborate high altar panel, and a mixture of architectural design unique to Spain. Overnight tonight in this majestic city. (B, D) Mass – Overnight Salamanca

Day 5 | August 7 | Salamanca / Alba de Tormes / Avila / Segovia

After breakfast, depart Salamanca for Alba de Tormes to visit the Carmelite Convent which contains St. Teresa of Avila’s incorrupt arm and heart. Continue to the walled city of Avila, the birthplace of St. Teresa. Then visit the Convent of St. Teresa which was built after her canonization over the house where she was born. Visit the Monastery of the Incarnation where St. Teresa experienced some of her most mystical encounters with Christ, then the Monastery of St. Joseph, her first foundation. Continue to Segovia for dinner and overnight. (B, D) Mass – Overnight Segovia

Day 6 | August 8 | Segovia / Burgos

Segovia awaits to show us the life of another great Carmelite, St. John of the Cross, the spiritual director of St. Teresa of Avila. Celebrate Mass at his tomb in the Convent named after him. We will discover some of the treasures of Segovia such as the great Gothic Cathedral with more than 20 chapels inside, and the Monastery of St. Joseph. Every corner of this old town sparkles with Romanesque churches and fine old houses. Journey to Burgos, where we will visit the Burgos Cathedral – a UNESCO World Heritage site and the Royal Abbey of Santa Maria la Real de Las Huelgas. Check in to our hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, D) Mass – Overnight Burgos

Day 7 | August 9 | Burgos / Garabandal

This morning, we depart Burgos and travel to Garabandal, the location of alleged apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Michael the Archangel that occurred in the 1960’s. Visit “The Pines,” where many of the apparitions are said to have taken place. Walk the village and spend time reflecting on the messages of conversion, penance, and the importance of the Eucharist in our lives. After some free time, head to our hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, D) Mass – Overnight Garabandal

Day 8 | August 10 | Garabandal / Lourdes

Depart Garabandal for San Sebastien. After lunch, cross the border into France on our way to Lourdes. Upon arrival, celebrate Mass at the Grotto of Massabielle, where Our Lady first appeared to St. Bernadette in 1858 and had her dig for the spring that is now known over the world for its healing waters. It is also where the Blessed Mother announced she was the Immaculate Conception. This evening, join hundreds of other pilgrims in the Blessed Sacrament Procession and Candlelight Procession that has endured since 1863. Lourdes will be our home for the next two nights. (B, D) Mass – Overnight Lourdes

Day 9 | August 11 | Lourdes

Enjoy a full day on your own in the peaceful setting of Lourdes. Visit the humble home where St. Bernadette lived during the apparitions or a place we saw yesterday, explore somewhere new, or just sit in awe and wonder and contemplate the events that happened here and the miracles that still occur. Participate one last time in the evening pilgrim activities. (B, D) Mass – Overnight Lourdes

Day 10 | August 12 | Lourdes / Paris

After breakfast, we will board our early morning flight to Paris, one of the greatest cities in the world. Arriving in Paris we will drive by the Eiffel Tower and Arch de Triumph before we journey to the top of Montmartre and visit the Basilica du Sacre Coeur. After Mass and some free time for prayer, we will check into our hotel for dinner and overnight. (B, D) Mass – Overnight Paris

Day 11 | August 13 | Paris

Today we begin at Notre Dame Cathedral, in the spiritual heart of Paris. Just a few blocks away on the same little island in the Seine is Sainte-Chapelle, built in 1248 to house the Crown of Thorns, and has one of the world’s most captivating array of stained-glass windows. Our next stop will be to the Shrine of Saint Vincent de Paul where the saint’s body is on display in a reliquary. From there we go to the Chapel of the Miraculous Medal at Rue de Bac where Our Lady appeared to St. Catherine Laboure in 1830 and where she is buried. The remainder of the afternoon is free. Tonight, we celebrate our farewell dinner at a local restaurant. (B, D) Mass Overnight Paris

Day 12 | August 14 | Paris / U.S.A.

Today marks the end of a marvelous experience as we transfer to the airport for the return trip home, filled with memories and graces of this pilgrimage that will last a lifetime.
