Today we will depart on our overnight flight to Madrid, Spain.

After our morning arrival in Madrid, we will be met by our tour manager who will be with us on our entire pilgrimage. Journey to Sarria, which is a popular pilgrims’ starting point for the Camino de Santiago. Overnight in Sarria

Today we will begin our walk along the Camino de Santiago. Leaving Sarria, we will meander along shady roads and tree-lined pathways, passing through many small hamlets that seem to blend seamlessly one into the next. Upon reaching our highest point of the day near Ferrieros, we will take in beautiful panoramic views of the Rio Mino valley before a short descent into the village of Mercadoiro. (Overnight Sarria)

Today we continue our decent into the Rio Mino valley, crossing the river into Portomarin before beginning to climb once again. We will enjoy views of the lush valley from the other side as we wander through the wooded paths to the village of Castromaior, our stopping point for the night. (Overnight Sarria)

A short climb this morning will take us to the top of Alto do Rosario (Rosary Heights) – the highest point of our Camino. For centuries, pilgrims have prayed the Rosary at this very spot, overlooking the surrounding hills and valleys. The majority of our walk today is the descent from this sacred spot into the village of Palas de Rei. (Overnight Sarria)

Today we cross four river valleys mostly on pathways through woodland. In Melide, a medieval township with close links to this pilgrimage, the Way temporarily becomes an urban route. Visit the town’s medieval center and churches and try Melide’s local delicacy: Pulpo (Octopus). (Overnight Melide)

Today’s walk takes us through meadows, oak and eucalyptus woodland, and countless small hamlets, some of which bear names that echo their historical connections with the Pilgrim’s way. This is the county of Arzua, a land with a strong dairy production and known for its delicious cheeses. (Overnight Melide)

Today we leave Arzua behind and meander along natural pathways through oak forests and lush meadows. The path today is mostly flat, with few gentle up-and-downhill sections. We have the opportunity to visit the medieval shrine at Santa Irene, our stopping point for the evening. There are legends surrounding the Baroque fountain at this shrine and the curative properties of the water that flows here. (Overnight Melide)

The first part of our final stages into Santiago is through dense woodland. As we draw closer to Santiago, the path becomes less natural as asphalt roads become more commonplace. We will skirt around the Santiago airport and cross the famed Rio Lavacolla, the last place for medieval pilgrims to freshen up before reaching Santiago. (Overnight Melide)

After leaving the town of Lavacolla, the Way approaches the Monte do Gozo (The Mount of Joy), a small hillock from which the ancient pilgrim was able to see, for the first time, the towers of the Cathedral of Santiago. This marks the halfway point of our day as we begin our descent into the city – walking first through the new town, through the old town, turning finally into the Plaza del Obradoiro spread out in front of the Cathedral de Santiago. This morning we will enjoy a complete tour of Santiago de Compostela. Visit the impressive Cathedral, considered to be one of the finest pieces of architecture in Europe. After Mass, we may climb down the stairs behind the altar to visit the crypt, where a silver urn contains the relics of St. James. We will see the Portico de la Gloria (Gateway to Heaven), an unparalleled masterpiece and walk to the top of the Cathedral for a panoramic view of this glorious city. We will also visit the museum in the cloister adjoining the Cathedral. (Overnight in Santiago)

Today we transfer to the airport in Santiago to catch our return flight home.
