The New Evangelization is vital to teaching our generation how to live- and to live well.
Pope Paul VI, soon to be beatified, may not have know the future impact of his early teachings on the New Evangelization but it was enough to inspire St. John Paul II to make it a centerpiece of his papacy. Benedict XVI wasted no time in reinforcing what his predecessor, now saint, taught. It was Benedict XVI who created the Council for Promoting the New Evangelization in 2010.
Now, Pope Francis continues the work of Peter by strengthening not just the Council for Promoting the New Evangelization but also strengthening the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples- a Congregation no longer just about reaching mission territories in far off places but certainly a congregation working closely with the Council on Promoting the New Evangelization an looking into how to implement effect preaching of the new evangelization so as to evangelize peoples in the older mission territories as well as the new mission fields of the streets of our major cities. Techniques, testimonies, corporal and spiritual works of mercy, and social media must all be considered in announcing anew the message of old- as St. Augustine said, “O Beauty, ever ancient, ever new.”

- Cardinal George Pell, prefect of the Secretariat for the Economy;
- Cardinal Timothy Michael Dolan, archbishop of New York, U.S.A.;
- Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, archbishop of Manila, Philippines;
- Cardinal Jean-Pierre Kutwa, archbishop of Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire;
- Cardinal Orani Joao Tempesta, archbishop of Sao Sebastiao do Rio de Janeiro, Brazil;
- Cardinal Lorenzo Baldisseri, secretary general of the Synod of Bishops;
- Archbishop Agostino Marchetto, secretary emeritus of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant Peoples;
- Archbishop Luigi Travaglino, apostolic nuncio to the Principality of Monaco, Holy See Permanent Observer at the United Nations Organisations and Organisms for Food and Agriculture;
- Archbishop Claudio Maria Celli, president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications;
- Archbishop Ignatius Suharyo Hardjoatmodjo of Jakarta, Indonesia; Archbishop Patrick Christopher Pinder of Nassau, Bahamas;
- Archbishop Dieudonne Nzapalainga of Bangui, Central African Republic;
- Archbishop Giampiero Gloder, president of the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy;
- Archbishop Paul Bui Van Doc of Thanh-Pho Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam;
- Bishop Tarcisius Isai Kikuchi of Niigata, Japan;
- Bishop Celmo Lazzari, apostolic vicar of San Miguel de Sucumbios, Ecuador;
- Fr. Michael Anthony Perry, O.F.M., minister general of the Order of Friars Minor;
- Fr. Louis Lougen, O.M.I., superior general of the Oblate Missionaries of Mary Immaculate;

And, Pope Francis also appointed the following as consultors of the same Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples:
- Archbishop Jorge Carlos Patron Wong, bishop emeritus of Paplanta, Mexico, secretary for seminaries of the Congregation for the Clergy; and
- Bishop Juan Ignacio Arrieta Ochoa de Chinchetru, secretary of the Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts.
